The casino at Baden-Baden occupies the Kurhaus, a colonnaded assembly building at the centre of the Black Forest spa town, and has operated since the 1820s. The gaming rooms were decorated in the style of French royal palaces by a Parisian designer, and they survive largely unchanged — the reason the venue is routinely described as the most beautiful casino in Europe.

Guided tours run in the mornings, before gaming begins in the afternoon. The classic rooms require jacket and tie; a separate machine area operates under looser rules. Identification is checked at the door, as at every German Spielbank.

Highlights

  • Gaming in the Kurhaus since the 1820s
  • Salons decorated in French palace style
  • Morning guided tours of the rooms
  • Jacket and tie required in the classic rooms
