Montecasino opened in 2000 at Fourways in northern Johannesburg, built as an indoor reproduction of a Tuscan village: painted ceilings imitating sky, cobbled streets, shopfronts and a piazza, all under one roof.
The complex holds two theatres, a cinema multiplex, hotels and a bird park alongside the gaming floor, and functions as a suburban leisure destination for the metropolitan area. It is one of the largest casinos in South Africa by machine count.
