2004Opened
Sands Macao opened in 2004 as the first casino licensed to a foreign operator after the end of the monopoly, and its commercial success set off the building programme that produced Cotai. It sits near the ferry terminal, which gives it direct access to arrivals from Hong Kong.
The design is a single large hall over several galleries rather than a themed resort, built for high-volume mass-market play. A hotel tower was added in 2007.
Highlights
- First post-monopoly foreign-operated casino, 2004
