Casinos in Venice

2 venues recorded.

Venice traces licensed gaming to the Ridotto, opened by the Republic in 1638 to bring carnival gambling under state control, and the city still operates a casino on the Grand Canal in the Ca' Vendramin Calergi, a Renaissance palace where Wagner died in 1883.

A second, larger venue sits on the mainland at Ca' Noghera near the airport, built for machine play and American-style tables. The two together make the municipal casino company one of the oldest continuously operating gaming businesses anywhere.
