Melbourne has a single casino, on the south bank of the Yarra opposite the central business district, holding one of the largest gaming floors in the southern hemisphere. It opened in a temporary site in 1994 and moved to the Southbank complex in 1997.
Since the Victorian royal commission reported in 2021 the property has operated under a special manager and a tightened compliance regime, with changes to carded play, cash limits and junket arrangements. It remains a major entertainment precinct with hotels, theatres and a riverside dining strip attached.
