Casinos in Monte-Carlo

2 venues recorded.

Monte-Carlo is the quarter of Monaco built in the 1860s around the casino, the Hôtel de Paris and the opera house, all developed by the Société des Bains de Mer under a state concession. The scheme was intended to give the principality an income, and it worked: the casino district became the model for the European resort casino.

The venues are small and ornate rather than large, and they trade on architecture, limits and setting. Monégasque citizens may not gamble there. The quarter is busiest during the Formula One weekend in May and the summer season, when minimums and dress enforcement both rise.
