Casinos in London

4 venues recorded.

London has more casinos than any other British city, split between public venues around Leicester Square and the West End and private members clubs in Mayfair. The members clubs hold the highest limits in Europe and operate behind unmarked doors in townhouses and hotels; the public casinos are larger, busier and admit visitors on production of identification.

The Gambling Act 2005 abolished the 24-hour membership wait that had defined British casinos since 1960, which brought walk-in trade to the West End venues. Machine numbers remain capped by licence class, so electronic roulette terminals substitute for the large slot banks found elsewhere.
