Reno was Nevada's original gaming town, drawing visitors from northern California long before the Strip was built, and it still markets itself on proximity to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada rather than on spectacle. The casinos cluster downtown along Virginia Street and in a second group south of the river near the convention centre.
The city's economy has diversified into logistics and technology since the 2010s, and several older downtown casinos have closed or been converted to housing. What remains is a market of mid-sized properties with lower minimums than Las Vegas, substantial locals trade, and a summer calendar built around car shows, air races and rodeo events.
