Marina Bay Sands opened in 2010 on reclaimed land at the head of Singapore's harbour: three fifty-five-storey hotel towers carrying a 340-metre sky deck with an infinity pool, above a podium containing the casino, a convention centre, a shopping mall, two theatres and a museum.
The casino occupies four levels of that podium and is capped by licence at a fixed share of the resort's floor area. Singapore residents and permanent residents pay an entry levy; foreign visitors enter free on presentation of a passport. The property is the single most recognisable image of the city.
