Casinos in Singapore

2 venues recorded across 1 regions and destinations.

Singapore licensed casino gaming in 2005 after a long prohibition, and deliberately limited it to two integrated resorts that opened in 2010. The licence conditions tie gaming to tourism infrastructure: each property had to deliver convention space, attractions, hotels and retail, with the casino restricted to a capped share of the floor area.

Citizens and permanent residents pay an entry levy and may be subject to exclusion orders applied for by family members, a set of social safeguards written into the law from the outset. Foreign visitors enter free of charge on presentation of a passport. The model has since been cited by regulators in Japan, Thailand and the Gulf as the template for a controlled market.
