Mandalay Bay opened in 1999 at the southern end of the Strip and is built around non-gaming volume: a convention centre of more than two million square feet, an eleven-acre pool complex with a wave pool and sand beach, an aquarium, and an arena used for basketball and concerts.
The gaming floor is large but secondary to that programme, and the complex contains two further hotel brands in the same tower structure. Its distance from the Strip core is bridged by a free tram running north to Excalibur.
