Las Vegas holds the largest concentration of casino floor space in the Western hemisphere, divided between three distinct districts. The Strip, which lies mostly outside the city limits in unincorporated Clark County, carries the resort properties that visitors recognise. Downtown, around Fremont Street, retains older and smaller casinos with lower table minimums. A third ring of locals casinos in Summerlin, Henderson and the north-west suburbs serves residents and rarely appears in tourist itineraries.
The economics of the Strip have shifted away from gaming: rooms, food, entertainment and conventions now generate the greater share of revenue at most large properties, and resort fees, paid parking and ticketed attractions have become standard. Table minimums rise sharply at weekends, and the cheapest games are generally found downtown or off-Strip rather than in the resort corridor.
